Initially this book appears to be a collection of short stories. All the narratives are brought together in the last story though. Ward is a good writer, and even though I liked some stories better than others, they were all enjoyable. It's a little reminiscent of Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vree...
I enjoyed Katie Ward‘s earliest chapters the most in this book, yet once we left the distant past to times that encompassed technology that I was familiar with, my attention drifted a bit. This was an excellent book and you might wonder why I haven't given it five stars. Many people have given it five stars and they are right. I, however, am mean and stingy with my stars. Girl Reading is Katie Ward's first book, and I am quite certain that she will give me some five star material soon...
