This story made the impossible seem possible; a little fairy tale a little real life! I became immediately interested in all the characters, the story, and where the author would lead me. It reminded me of The Stolen Child and I will certainly be watching for this author in the future.

This book had the potential to be great but somehow felt flat. I didn't connect with any of the characters, and just found myself hating them. Not a likeable one among the bunch. The description of fairy land seemed like the author was going for beautiful and magical but read like he was a teenager ...

But order is understanding that things cannot be made simple, that complexity reigns and must be accepted. Marina Warner's quote above opens chapter 38 of Some Kind of Fairy Tale. Though I'm not a big...

No one believes her story about being spirited away (though it's an old one in that part of the world) The points of view range from the people she left behind to her psychiatrist to a nephew who's got his own troubles. It makes for ...

This is a very mixed bag of stories, some are very interesting and draw you in while some felt, to me at least, as if they were trying too hard to be edgy and hip. These are all stories about Gender and Gender appearance and dealing with alternative ways of looking at and dealing with gender. It r...

I enjoyed this a lot more than I'd expected. I listened to it at work as background noise and wound up getting overly interested.I have to admit - because I was a very strange, dreamy teenager, reading this was like playing out my childhood fantasy. I was always so sure I was going to be taken away ...
