In the year 2035, race, religious and ethnic wars had engulfed the entire world. They had been so devastating and widespread that finding a solution had become a worldwide endeavor. For once untold trillions of the various world’s currencies was spent by governments in order to ensure that the almost collapse of societies could never happen again. The brightest and best thinkers were tasked with coming up with a world wide solution to this seemingly intractable problem. The solution that was put forth and adopted by the world’s leaders called for the gradual phasing out or dilution of all identifiable racial, ethnic and religious groups. The plan was named “Gradual Race Objective In Dilution or G.R.O.I.D for short. Now it is the year 2235 and there have been many generations of GROID. The program is an success and the GROID are firmly in power. Someone has begun to kill prominent members of GROID. Could it be the radical group B.A.B.E.L, Brothers And Believers Everlasting? An offshoot of the Ones That Hold Existence Resolve referred to as the O.T.H.E.R? Or more sinister could it be the GROID themselves who are behind the killings? Led by the ultra conservative radical GROID group T.E.A, The Existence Alliance Party?A few hours earlier James had been in his father’s work shop looking at his collection of antique firearms. His father had painstakingly restored various handguns, shotguns and rifles. It was his passion and he spent all of his spare time looking for the rare parts for each weapon. He would then lovingly assemble each part until he had a complete unit. Of course none of the firearms were operational as mandated by law. He had to have a special permit personally reviewed by the Law Enforcement Active Police or LEAP before he could so much as buy a single part. In addition the actual firing mechanisms and any ammunition were strictly forbidden. No one was ever allowed to posses these items for any reason. Once when James was a boy he noticed one particular handgun that his father kept separate from the other weapons. When he asked his father about it his father became visibly upset. He told James that he was to never mention this particular weapon to anyone. It was very very special. It could actually fire rounds of ammunition. He told James that he had over many years obtained the key parts that made a gun a gun. He also had in his possession six retooled bullets that he was sure would fire. Of course he was not completely certain of that because the gun could never be fired. Leap could possibly detect the combustion as a result of the discharge of the weapon. He could be arrested by LEAP and be sent to prison. “James you must forget you have ever seen this do you understand”. He had promised his father that he did. That was a long time ago and his father was now dead. He had not forgotten about the gun. Once in awhile when he could not sleep he would hold the gun and it would make him feel better. Safe! He would carefully remove the bullets and take the gun apart. Just like his father had showed him. He would lay all of the pieces of the gun before him and mentally diagram how each piece fit. Then he would reassemble it with swift sure hands. Once that was done he was able to sleep soundly.
