Gwenda Bond's YA debut Blackwood is based on the true story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. Now I have to admit that I knew practically nothing about the legend of Roanoke before starting this book, the little I did know actually came from another popular YA book but since I didn't really enjo...
I had only vaguely heard of The Lost Colony before reading this book, so I was immediately hooked by the premise. Blackwood is dark and mysterious, filled with action, ancient curses and some seriously creepy magic – all of which I enjoyed!Miranda and Phillips are a great pair of protagonists, whose...
*Genre* YA Mystery, Suspense*Rating* 3.5*Review*“Blackwood” is a Young Adult mystery/suspense novel that focuses on The Lost Colony on Roanoke Island and what happens in current times. As a history buff, of sorts, I normally love these kinds of stories. It's such an interesting tale about 114 coloni...

Things change ...

But I’m insanely behind on my reading as it is and if something either doesn’t grab me within the first fifty pages or just screams “dislike” at me in the first fifty pages, I’m going to put it up at this poi...
