My 10 year old told me I had to read this, because he enjoyed it when reading it in class. I recommend books to him all the time, so I feel obliged when he recommends one to me. I read this in year 4 as a group project, and I don't think I'll ever forget the Hatchet! Hatchet is about surviving by yourself and realising that self pity will get you nowhere, especially deserted in an abandoned Canadian forest with only the bears and fish for company!
