This is one of the best books I've read in a very, very long time. It fully deserves its +4 average rating here. But it is a different kind of good from most books I read. It's powerful, it's thought-provoking, it's poignant, it's desperately sad, it's hopeful.Hate List is the story of what takes pl...

An emotional read especially since it brought back memories of high school fears since the Colombine shooting occurred my senior year. This is a story about the realities of high school. The bullies. The insecurity. The anger some feel and the way that vocalizing the frustration can turn into a tra...

Excellent, just excellent. It was such a powerful concept I wasn't sure the story could hold up and it did and more. I felt every emotion Valerie felt. I felt her sadness and her anger and her confusion and her small tinges of happiness. This book is a must read for everyone!

I gave this book 3 stars but for a teenager I would highly recommend it. I'll admit the book made me cry but what held me back from rating it higher was the characters. I hated most of them, which is ironic given the title and theme of the book. The parents of the main character were awful people, a...

I was really skeptical at the beginning of this, because the very first words I read, before the story even started, was a quote from a Nickelback song. Bleh. Ironically, Rachel over at Books I Done Read felt the same way. At least I’m not alone. But as the story started unfolding, I found myself cau...

I kept thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it, which, obviously, led me to really enjoy it. I really liked how she went back and forth between the shooting and days after to the present, when Valerie went back to school. So often in news reports of these type of tragic events, you only ...

I have to say, this book is powerful. I was near tears throughout most of it.Val's story of life and moving on after a tragedy is quite touching. To be honest, i know quite a few Nick's, and i can be like Val myself at times, so this was definitely a good one.The story is wonderfully written, it sw...

In May of her junior year, Valerie Leftman's boyfriend, Nick Levil, walked into the Garvin High School cafeteria and opened fire, killing six students and injuring more before turning his gun on himself. Valerie was shot in the leg, and was in the hospital for weeks, but that doesn't stop her from ...

Valerie is alone. Her family tiptoes around her, her friends act like she doesn’t exist, and most of the people in the community think she should be dead. Valerie’s boyfriend, the person she trusted more than anyone else, shattered her life when he brought a gun to school and wounded several stude...

Wow. I don’t really have words to describe how amazing this book was. It was just so touching and real. I never thought I would enjoy a book about such a tragic subject but Hate List was so hard not to like. Once I got into the story, it was impossible to stop reading. One of the things I really ...
