I would give this book between 3 1/2 and 4 stars. I like all the "witchy-ness" of it. And the instant relationship between Dominic and Meriel, as Dominic learns about his powers and his past, which comes back to haunt him, by the way. For some reason, it seemed more like an Urban Fantasy than a Para...
Really pretty very good. Not at all ground-breaking for this genre, but nicely done, especially Meriel, Nell and Edwina - tough, strong female characters who either avoided the stereotypes, or carried them off with panache.
3.5 starsInteresting world and characters. I could have used a little more explanation on the witches, stuck witches, turned witches and mages. I felt a little lost a couple times and had to go back and remind myself on what the differences were. And, I'm still not clear on the mage front.
I really liked the relationship between Meriel and Dominic. They acted like adults. They were happy together throughout much of the book, something we don't often get in romance. That was just a nice difference. Meriel was a strong heroine--also my fav.
Oh crap. I'm about to go all fangirl over the romantic relationship between Meriel and Dominic. It was just so freaking perfect. I mean, they actually spoke to each other. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! They didn't hide things, keep secrets, or manipulate each other. It was un-freakin-believable. One of my ...
I don't expect every book I read to be worth five stars, but I hope so and keep searching. Lauren Dane is an author with potential who sets the framework for great conflicts. In Heart of Darkness, a bond between witches is not always romantic or sexual. (It's like imprinting in the Twilight Saga.) E...
3.5 StarsMeriel is a coven witch and has been raised knowing that one day she will take over the role of running the Owen clan from her mother. As the future leader Meriel has to live up to her mother's high expectations of her which she doesn't always find easy and their relationship is quite stra...
I started this one last year sometime and got distracted. When I picked it up again I was kicking myself for waiting so long. I love how this ties in with some of the other story arcs Ms Dane has done. I am seriously looking forward to not only the next one in this series but also the next De la ...
I've been trying Ms Dane's books for a while on and off and until Heart of Darkness I've been sitting on the edge about her work but Heart of Darkness definitely pushed me over that edge into seriously loving and enjoying her work, Heart of Darkness is truly brilliant. And would highly recommend!The...
