I would give this book between 3 1/2 and 4 stars. I like all the "witchy-ness" of it. And the instant relationship between Dominic and Meriel, as Dominic learns about his powers and his past, which comes back to haunt him, by the way. Really pretty very good. Not at all ground-breaking for this genre, but nicely done, especially Meriel, Nell and Edwina - tough, strong female characters who either avoided the stereotypes, or carried them off with panache.
3.5 starsInteresting world and characters. I could have used a little more explanation on the witches, stuck witches, turned witches and mages. I felt a little lost a couple times and had to go back and remind myself on what the differences were. And, I'm still not clear on the mage front.
I really liked the relationship between Meriel and Dominic. They acted like adults. They were happy together throughout much of the book, something we don't often get in romance. That was just a nice difference. Meriel was a strong heroine--also my fav.
Oh crap. I'm about to go all fangirl over the romantic relationship between Meriel and Dominic. It was just so freaking perfect. I mean, they actually spoke to each other. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! They didn't hide things, keep secrets, or manipulate each other. It was un-freakin-believable. One of my ...
