Not one of Helen MacInnes's best works. The premise, the infiltration of communists into various facets of post World War 2 New York City life, held promise but the delivery was so heavy-handed that it became a chore to read.

A very down to earth but yet a very taut thriller. No flashy action scenes, just good ol' shrewdness behind enemy occupied territory. And I liked the end as well.In my opinion, Helen MacInnes deserves to be among the suspense and thriller greats like Christie, MacLean and Innes.

I don't remember much of this book but I vaguely recall that I liked it very much at the time. This is one of the books I plan to re-read in future (I still have a copy, though it is a bit worn out due to the passage of time).

I read this book for the first time soon after its original publication in the late 60's. I loved it and inspired an interest in suspense novels and especially all books by Helen MacInnes. Would love to find the time to read it again.
