“Call it sentimentality. Call it curiosity. Just don’t call it madness.”Her Dark Curiosity is the first book that failed to meet my expectations this 2014. Never, in my years of reading books that I encountered characters making stupid decisions, have I ever face-palmed myself so much (physically an...

Not as engaging as the first, Her Dark Curiosity still brings the hard-hitting suspense throughout most of the novel. Shepard furthers the story of Juliet Muroe while bringing a fresh book that readers can enjoy. I'll be looking forward to the next tale she spins!

While the romance certainly took up a large chunk of this book, it didn't feel like it stopped the plot like what happened in the first book. That being said, I still don't like the love triangle. Juliet keeps saying she's drawn to Edward because he understands her in a way that no one else does, bu...

Her Dark Curiosity was the much anticipated sequel to The Madman’s Daughter. In the first book, we met the teenage Juliet Moreau, daughter of the infamous Dr. Moreau. I loved the first book and enjoyed that retelling of HG Wells’ classic The Island of Doctor Moreau. In Her Dark Curiosity, Juliet h...

Didn't have the same oomph as the first one. I'm guessing it was meant as more of a set-up to the last book, which I'm SUPER PUMPED about, as it's based on Frankenstein. I really wish Edward/Beast Edward would get his happy ending, but I sort of majorly doubt it. Of course he's my favorite. Of cours...

A spoiler free review for both The Madman's Daughterand this book!It appears a lot of people found this book to be a disappointment; usually, whenever there’s a book that’s been hyped and loved by many, I find the read to be a letdown and wonder what everyone has read that I didn’t. What did I miss?...

Okay, ya’ll. You know how much I like the first book and was dying to era this one. Well, I read it. It’s good. Plot: This plot picks up where the last book left off and the reader is back in London where Juliet is trying to go on with her life. But we all know that dark things don’t always stay i...

“Compassion?” he hissed. “Why would you have sympathy for a monster?” “Because we’re not so different!" *minor spoilers for the first 1/3 of the book* The main character makes some dangerous, questionable choices. She is desperate for answers. She makes some extremely risky decisions. There is ...

This was exactly what I wanted in a sequel, and more. I must be honest with you. I typically do not enjoy historical fiction, or even retellings of classic stories, but Megan Shepherd is continuing to challenge my preferences. I loved her subtle way of weaving the Jekyll and Hyde canon into her own ...

Her Dark Curiosity is another thrill ride into the deepest recesses of a person – those hidden sources of darkness that draws one to the disturbing and macabre – not just of Juliet Moreau but also of the reader. For, the compelling nature of the story lies not in Juliet finding love or obtaining a “...
