He won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Awards for How All This Started (2000), the story collection Dry Rain (1997), and the memoir Indian Creek Chronicles (1994). He has published over a hundred stories, earning numerous honors, including nominations for the Pushcart Prize. How All This Started is his first novel. He lives with his family in Great Falls, Montana.
