This was an enjoyable, light read. I like Louise Penny's Gamache series, and this one is slightly darker than some of the others I've read. But the intrigue keeps up to the end, and the setting in rural Quebec is always nice. Makes me wish I lived in a rural village myself.
I am torn because I really liked this (and it may have been my favorite of the series, despite a drop in the number of delicious food descriptions) BUT as I think about it more, I really only liked the very satisfying last few pages. "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household." - Matthew 10:36 It's Christmas time when Constance Pineault comes to Three Pines to visit her friend, Myrna. She's bowled over by the bucolic village and its people. The atmosphere is beatific, she's impressed by the warmth of the village crow...
DAMN! I cried again. Of course for those who haven't been following Gamache this would make no sense but I am sure there are serial readers out there (like myself) who will know what I mean. There is so much heart and love in Louise' books without resorting to food porn/quirkiness.There is always a c...

(Such a big deal made of him climbing up.)Jerome--uh, why didn't he tell? The timeline doesn't work--the length of time since the dam plot, the length of time Arnot is impri...
