This was the first book I read by this author. It was long ago – the book was published in 1999 – but it was a marvelous introduction. Ever since this book, I have been buying Julia Quinn’s regency romances as soon as they came out. I enjoyed most of them but I approached the re-reading of this nove...
Hilarious and so sweet. Lady Danburry is being blackmailed, so she asks her nephew James Sidwell to help her find the perpetrator. Posing as the new estate manager, James first suspects Elizabeth Hochkiss, Lady Danburry’s companion, after eliminating her as a suspect, he quickly offers his service t...

There was nothing wrong with this book or the writing. I adore JQ, but the female leads in both of the books for this series were annoying and definitely not the type of women I want to read about. The MC in book one pissed me off so much I couldn't even write my review. This one is not much better....
Such an adorable read. I don't know what else to say other than this will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy. James is a charming, devilishly handsome and swoon-worthy hero. Elizabeth is sweet, kind, a fighter. Their courtship is nothing short of entertaining. Secondary characters were brillia...
I loved it! I positively loved it! It's funny (hilarious actually), it's witty and it's fast-paced. The characters are amazing (even though Elizabeth does have some very irritating moments)! Basically, Elizabeth, Lady Danbury's companion, needs money desperately. She has three siblings she needs t...
Great fun! I loved the plot and the characters. Agatha, Lady Danbury, is awesome, probably my favorite non-protagonist. Elements of screwball comedy abound, with wildly improbably coincidences, and the best feline stealer of scenes. Elizabeth, the female lead, is immediately appealing and her near-i...
I can always depend on Quinn to give me an entertaining romantic read with wit and a lighter tone. All the characters are likable and although the plot is quite obvious from the start, it was a lot of fun to go through it with the characters. The Aunt is just delightful. And lets not forget Malcolm ...
I should also order the first one, seeing as the protagonists make an appearance here again. I like Quinn's stories. They are light, but not too much so. They are a little angsty, but not annoyingly so. (This one imo even less than the Bridgertons) It's the perfect mixture and they make for a good r...
