This is not the novel you are looking for...By which of course I mean that this novel is not what you may be expecting when you pick it up. I certainly didn't predict that the book would be exactly what it was in the end. I thought it was a straightforward classic sci-fi in the same manner as others...

I really liked it. At first I thought it's going to be a very heavy read, but it really wasn't. The Sci-Fi aspect is a bit soft (not many technical details), but the plot is good.

Sweeping saga, well told. Writing rich and true. Loved the imagination and depth.

Really enjoyed the different stories - Dan Simmons did a masterful job of covering different genres. Was a little disappointed with the ending - I prefer the first book in a series to stand on its own. No other complaints, though. I can see why this book is consistently on top 100 lists.

Found a big box of sci-fi/fantasy paperbacks out on the sidewalk in Park Slope. This and the sequel were in there, and I vaguely remembered hearing that it's an important one, so...

This book is just as amazing today as it was the first time I read it in high school. It is my favorite book in the Hyperion Cantos and it is one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy books of all time. Simmons uses a framing story of a journey to set up not just the backstories for the pilgrims to the Tim...

This is a classic space opera tale, though most of it takes place on the planet of Hyperion, except in flashbacks. Seven travelers are on a pilgrimage to see the Shrike, a godlike alien being who apparently has a habit of going on bloodthirsty killing sprees and carving up most of the travelers who ...
