As mysteries go, I don't think Bradley was trying very hard. After all, he managed to get an enormous cast together for a real, old-fashioned, Agatha Christie murder in the mansion over the holidays, and he can't even be bothered to come up with a compelling reason for a lot of people to have possib...

Flavia de Luce is becoming one of my favorite characters!! She is an 11-year-old chemist/detective/genius that I desperately want to meet!Loved this book!

Ok, I know it's not great literature, but it is a great pleasure to read. The story is almost entirely incidental to the cast of characters, who get more fleshed out and rounded with each book. wonderful escapism.
I liked it better than the last one, but the series is starting to feel a bit slight. I like Flavia, but the other characters feel kinda formulaic. Glad to see the sisters weren't so monstrous this time.
A fun little mystery. Flavia DeLuce is 11 years old, precocious and surrounded by quirky townsfolk and relatives. The historical mystery, set after the war, blends her precociousness into the tale very well.
