Perhaps this is just because I already knew most of what happened from the movie Capote, but I just don't feel anything. It's kind of like [b:The Fault in Our Stars|11870085|The Fault in Our Stars|John Green|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1360206420s/11870085.jpg|16827462]: everybody feels so fake.

...Smith said, "They [The Clutters] never hurt me. Like other people. Like people have all my life. Maybe it's just that the Clutters were the ones who had to pay for it." This was one of the most outstandingly well thought out and well written books that I have read in a long time. It was also on...

In Cold Blood tells the story of the real murder of Mr Clutter, his wife, and two of his children. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock broke into their home, tied them up, and shot them in the head with a shotgun. The Clutters were pobably the nicest people in Kansas and nothing was stolen (exept $50), so ...

I am not sure what I was expecting. I didn't know anything about the case or, besides hearing the name, the author. I was surprised at the leisurely pace throughout the book. It seemed slow going at times and the detail could be slightly overwhelming. However, I see the reason for it. The only ...

Truman Capote claimed to have invented in this the "non-fiction novel" which today is usually called "creative nonfiction." It's a bastard child, neither journalistic history nor fiction, by its nature rather unsettling because you can't really just sink into it as a story nor really trust it as fac...

Interesting to read what's supposedly "the first work of true crime", based on the 1959 Clutter family murders. It was well-written, quite comprehensive (not that I know very much about the murder and trial otherwise), but I felt it dragged a little bit and I found it a bit too fantastical at times.

A chilling 4 Stars I had been wanting to read this for sometime after watching the movie Capote . If you found the movie to be intriguing, the book is even more so.Having taken six years to write, In Cold Blood is epic in its scope. Never have I read a true crime account that has delved so deep...

There are many reasons to resent this book. It's exploitative and there are well-reasoned arguments for Capote having manipulated more than was fair the events he chronicled...but he's such a beautiful writer. That's the clincher here, this book may not have invented the true crime genre but it certa...
