This is an all time fave and I generally reread it once a year. I love the mix of myth with military sci-fi. I love the emotion and family and friends and tragedy and vengeance and skulduggery.
I'm halfway through this book (which is page 347!) and I'm reading one fight scene after another. I kept thinking once the AI is involved, maybe the story will start getting better but at this page there are just glimpses. I'm giving up.

It's fairly clear that this is really two books and that they are written some time appart. The "first" book is fairly standard Sci-Fi marine grunt stuff while the second goes off somewhat into the fantasy realm. I liked both.
