I won this on Goodreads give away last year. Because the story takes place during winter I wanted to read it while it was snowing outside so I could get into the blizzard feel of the setting. The story is about Russ the Chief of Police of a small New York town Miller's Kill and Clare the first femal...

This book is the first in the Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne series. This book was not what I thought it was going to be, and I haven't quite decided if that is a good or bad thing. So I am going to list what I enjoyed about the book and what I did not enjoy about the book. What I liked:-Chief ...

Clare Fergusson is, in many respects, a babe in the woods as she strives to deal with her first placement as a priest in upstate New York. She doesn't know much about northern winters and is trying to learn about her new community. Shortly after her arrival in Millers Kill, she discovers an abandone...

I don't know where I was or what I was doing when I gulped down this series, but I most certainly read them all in a few weeks and adored them. Clare Fergusson is a marvel to me, fascinating both as a priest and a pilot.

7/14/11 ** Two interesting characters pull you through this murder mystery. Clare is an Episcopal priest (the first woman priest in this small town) and also a former Army helicopter pilot (and graduate of the Army's survival school). Russ is also retired Army, and the Chief of Police in this in t...

4.5 stars. So glad I listened to the many people who recommended this series. I'm not that into mysteries other than the classic cozy writers, but there's such a great relationship being delicately crafted here, as well as a good story. Can't wait for the next one.

In the Bleak Midwinter was available at a discount for the B&N nook, and it's got me hooked on this series about a former Army Air Force chopper pilot turned Episcopalian priest. I'm now on the third book, which looks to be as good as the first two. Strong-willed, intelligent and compassionate, but ...

I always say I’m not a fan of mystery but I think after reading In the Bleak Midwinter, I need to change my tune. Clare Fergusson is new to the small town of Miller’s Kill, NY. She’s been recently hired as the Episcopalian priest for St. Alban’s church. Before she was a priest, she used to be a heli...

A nice change of pace in the mystery genre. The new priest at the local Episcopalian priest is a woman, unmarried, born in the South, and has a background as an Army helicopter pilot. The sheriff is a local boy who has recently returned home at the conclusion of his own military career, is married...

I just discovered this series and I am really enjoying it. Great characters and wonderful writing. It reminds me of Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon series. I am ready to start book two in this series.
