1906 - 1911 - I read this a while back and somehow forgot to write anything whatever about it, or mark it as read, or anything. I remember liking it; it was fairly dark, moved fast. Can't remember if I thought there were weird sexual undertones or was surprised to find there weren't.Humph. I hate wh...

The first three essays are interesting, even if the second and third essays are somewhat scattered. Also be warned, I discuss Kohl's points which some people will consider spoilers.I got this book because of the title essay, "Should We Burn Babar?", an essay that tackles the question of suitability...

The first three to four essays in this book are quite good. The last few are so-so. If you have read other work by Zipes, you can skip the chapter about Disney, for you have heard it before. However, the book is worth reading simply for its discussion about Beauty and the Beast as well as the Rumps...

The main points I've gathered so far are: 1) children are indoctrinated with consumerism from day 1, children's literature is as much to blame as everything else; and 2) there is no such thing as true childrens literature. While I don't necessarily disagree with many of the...

This edition includes a good introduction by Jack Zipes that looks at how Carter's translation influences her and how she changes the morals at the end of the stories. If you loved Carters The Bloody Chamber then you have to read this to see how she was influenced by Perrault.

I read this entire thing...twice. Once when I was young and easily impressible (not quite sure why I chose to read this probably because it was a fat book and I seem drawn to those kind ) and then several years later. Some of these are extremely dark, creepy, odd, murderous, and downright depressing...
