An ethnographic study of jamie starr, a submissive, masochistic transexual. This character expose' explores the roots of her sexual identity by an examination of her basic drives and motivations as demonstrated in her life activities. jamie tells in her own, unvarnished words what events in her life crystallized her personality, why she was motivated to change her sex, what drives her to submit herself totally to another, and why for her is pain is pleasure. This work also acts to expose important facets of an American subculture and humanizes its participants. A must-read for any serious investigator of alternate sexualities in America.
