Jeff Mack is the creator of picture books and early graphic novel readers including Hush Little Polar Bear and the Hippo and Rabbit series. He has also illustrated award winning picture books and chapter books such as Eve Bunting's Hurry! Hurry! and James Howe's Bunnicula and Friends. Originally from Syracuse, NY, Mack grew up fascinated by monsters and robots. He built his own pinball machines from cardboard boxes, and created comic books about his four siblings being devoured by monsters.In 1995 he began painting murals for restaurants, hospitals, and libraries. Five years later, he was writing and illustrating children's books in an ever-increasing range of styles.Now at home in Western Massachusetts, he continues to write, paint, and talk with school groups about his various projects. For more reviews, check out my blog Craft-CycleA very cute picture book. I love how simple the words are, but that there is still a whole story that goes on when combined with the pictures. The illustrations are great as well. A fun tale of being brave and making friends.

Mike Opitz gave me this book because it made him think of meaningful prosody. The same four letters combine into all their meaningful combinations and are used repeatedly throughout the book, but with each iteration achieving a different meaning. Oh, the fun you can have with just four words and some wonderfully expressive faces on a rabbit, a mouse, and (briefly) a bear. Great fun! Reminds me a bit of Remy Charlip's Fortunately.
