K.L. Going is the award-winning author of books for children and teens. Her first novel, Fat Kid Rules the World was a Michael Printz Honor Book, listed with YALSA's Best Books for Young Adults and their Best Books for the Past Decade. Her books have been Booksense picks, Scholastic Book Club choices, Junior Library Guild selections, NY Public Library Best Books for the Teenage, and winners of state book awards. Her work has been published in Korea, Italy, Japan, Germany, and the UK, and Fat Kid Rules the World is now a major motion picture! K.L. began her career working at one of the oldest literary agencies in New York City. She used this inner knowledge of publishing to write Writing and Selling the Young Adult Novel -- a how-to book for aspiring writers. This was enjoyable and a really different take from your typical viewpoint in young adult literature. I'm not fat, I don't have a lot of large friends (and 100% have nothing against people that are), so I'm not sure how well I am able to appreciate this story and really have a good understanding on ...

The 5 stars are for Curt. He is a fascinating and complicated character. I really appreciate that a drug addict/criminal character is written so complexly. He isn't just a semi-homeless drug addict, he's also a punk rock god, a friend, and a realistic human. He's not a "bad guy" or a cautionary tale...

Good dog! Naughty cats.* But everyone gets treats in the end. I really like Santat's art. Library copy. *I can't stop hearing Bill Murray saying "dogs and cats, living together", so the whole thing is a big chuckle fest for me.

How this book won a Printz award is beyond me. It was poorly written and I guessed the ending after 20 pages. Troy Billings is a fat kid who wants to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train because apparently at 6'1" and 300 pounds he's too fat to do anything. Curt is a semi-homeless, skinn...
