This was enjoyable and a really different take from your typical viewpoint in young adult literature. I'm not fat, I don't have a lot of large friends (and 100% have nothing against people that are), so I'm not sure how well I am able to appreciate this story and really have a good understanding on ...
The 5 stars are for Curt. He is a fascinating and complicated character. I really appreciate that a drug addict/criminal character is written so complexly. He isn't just a semi-homeless drug addict, he's also a punk rock god, a friend, and a realistic human. He's not a "bad guy" or a cautionary tale...
Good dog! Naughty cats.* But everyone gets treats in the end. I really like Santat's art. Library copy. *I can't stop hearing Bill Murray saying "dogs and cats, living together", so the whole thing is a big chuckle fest for me.
How this book won a Printz award is beyond me. It was poorly written and I guessed the ending after 20 pages. Troy Billings is a fat kid who wants to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train because apparently at 6'1" and 300 pounds he's too fat to do anything. Curt is a semi-homeless, skinn...
Liam is a disappointment to his father. He has been all of his life hence, King of the Screwups. When he does something so really stupid his father can't forgive him for Liam gets shipped off to his uncle's trailer in the middle of nowhere. Can his Uncle Pete & former bandmates help Liam be the ma...
I think this was just not my type of book.I hated the whiny main character Troy. Always emphasizing how fat and unpopular he is, boohoo. And instead of doing something against his obesity he eats when he's frustrated. So it's his own fault and I don't want to read any more complaints about how someo...
5 starsBest picture book ever! So cute!! The five naughty cats kept Dog on his toes when their people were out, but they rallied behind him when he needed their help. If you have young readers, this is a fun book with big, bold illustrations that will be sure to please. Even if you don't have yo...
