This is a generally bizarre book about a family who runs a gator-wrestling island theme park and seems to overestimate the fame and grandeur of said park, which is becoming bankrupt. Alligators, vultures, ghosts and humans populate this novel, and I'm never sure whether the ghost part is supposed to...

Swamplandia! is a novel by Karen Russell. Swamplandia! is also a place, one of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands, and a tourist attraction, and it's always written with an exclamation point, which never failed to amuse or touch me, depending on the context, throughout the book. Swamplandia! is rundown ...

Couldn't read entire book. Read beginning and end. Really just not interested. Well-written, unimportant story, IMHO.

Mostly just very strange. I liked 3 of the stories. But overall not a big winner in my opinion.

However, the re...

I'm going to set this book aside, not yet ready to say abandon it but more than likely will never go back to it. While listening to this audio version I fell asleep, attempted to find where I left off, listened for another hour, then realized I fell asleep for a reason. No I wasn't tired, I just pla...

After chapter 5, I gave up. I couldn't get into it, I couldn't get past the strange analogies and odd sentences scattered throughout, and I didn't feel a connection to anyone or anything in the book. I was sad because the cover and title were so fun.

Unlikely (in many ways) as it may be, Karen Russell's debut novel is a good book which mixes a powerfully crafted, original perspective with an extremely fascinating and curious setting.VideoReview:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Guf22_cMZGw&feature=youtu.be
