England, 1917.

With the First World War raging, families across all social classes are suffering terrible upheaval.

The working class Grant family are forced to leave their childhood home of Rothiedrum to move to the daunting Dunmarnock Estate.

Little do they know that another little heartbeat accompanies them…

Evie Grant, the youngest daughter of Jamie and Maggie Grant, harbours an illegitimate secret that grows harder to conceal by the day.

With the father, her beloved Davie Grainger, at war and unaware of the legacy he has left behind, the deception threatens to engulf Evie.

Since going to the frontline, she’s heard no word from him.

Has he abandoned her or is he dead?

While Evie waits for news, other men are returning, wounded and broken, from the front.
One of these is the Bairds’ son, Andrew. Evie befriends him, but she cannot prevent him from falling under the evil influence of fellow servant, Effie Jordan.

Then when Davie returns, Evie finds her love for him must be tested to its limits …

Feuds are formed, hearts are wrecked but despite the devastation of the war, friendships are made that will never be broken.

‘King’s Exile’ is a tale of family life and romance during the devastation of war.

Christine Marion Fraser was born in Glasgow just after the war. At the age of ten, she contracted a very rare disease which terminated her education and put her into a wheelchair where she has been ever since.
A keen reader and storyteller, with a vivid imagination, she got the idea for her first novel, ‘Rhanna’, while on holiday in the Hebrides. Rhanna was followed by five other novels about the little Hebridean Island.
Christine Marion Fraser lives with her husband and daughter in Argyll.
