It only took me half of the day, but I finished it. Loved it, but I can see how after awhile it could become outdated. I really took my time to try and understand the connections to the time period with which this story was trying to communicate. I loved that Superman made his presence known the lat...
Sometimes, DC editorial can come up with some pretty bold ideas, and this was certainly one of them. Take Batman, and the entire massive line of Bat-family books, out of their comfort zones (fighting crime) and put them in a situation that they're ill-prepared for, and that even their best efforts w...
At the time, this was billed as the "last" Ra's al Ghul story. Maybe that really was the intention at the time, but he's shown up a time or two since. The art doesn't really do anything for me, so let's put that aside right away. It's written by Greg Rucka, whose work in the Batverse is usually good...
A favorite graphic novel since its release in 1986, The Dark Knight Returns presents a worn down, disillusioned era that has all but discarded its ideas of heroism -- when popular distrust has pushed heroes underground or sent them packing -- and then moves the argument that Batman's willingness to ...
I have mixed feelings about this comic. It's not bad, and I have a very high opinion of Morrison, but I'm not a big fan of the "Batman meets the supernatural" stories when there are still so many cool psychopaths and gangsters to beat. (except with the Batman-Dracula trylogy; that was amazing!)"Got...
This seemed to go on way longer than 320 pages. Started a little too stilted and factual for me (I know it was needed, but still), but it got better as it went on and added more human elements to the story. Some of the side stories were completely a waste of time (I'm looking at your Ra al Ghul), bu...
More like a 4.5. Some of the art bugged the hell outta me, which is part of the reason for the deduction. I think Cry for Blood was a much stronger story than this. But the history geek in me loved the backstory so much. Full review later.
I had my doubts coming into this, not being a real fan of Miller's work in '300' and the few 'Sin City' comics I had read becoming less interesting as I thought more about them, but, with 'The Dark Knight Returns' Miller has brought 'Batman' to its full, dark potential.Set in a vague near-future (on...
Really quite good :D I enjoyed this one almost as much as I enjoyed Year One and The Man Who Laughed, etc. It's not as good as Hush or The Long Halloween, but really very almost.
