3 ½ stars – Recommended!!The story unfolds in the form of correspondence letters between Juliette, a fledgling author, and the members of the Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. This “society” is made up of pig farmers, school teachers and other eccentric characters. This is essentially a he...
This is a charming book, charming enough that I think I need to buy a personal copy so I know I'll have it on hand when I want to reread it. It's a charming story told in letters about a writer dealing with writer's block and the story of the charming people of Guernsey a Channel Island off the coa...
This was a most enjoyable read! This was the epitome of a heart-warming story.written in the form of letters made it a quick, easy read and one that made me both laugh and cry. Characters that you will fall in love with and wish they were your friends. Highly recommend!
I enjoyed how the book was based around two women who never met, but everyone else loved. Neither Elizabeth or Juliet were originally from Gurnsey, but the entire island ended up circling around both of the women. I have always been interested in WWII. This book had a perspective I had not encounte...
I re-read this one last night, staying up far later than I meant to and weeping at various points. Sad, but so, SO good. Epistolary novel, WWII book, book about books, with a touch of romance and a delightful cast of characters. Juliet easily could have been a kind of background character to the res...
What a wonderful novel to start the year off with!I liked that this book was all in hand written letter form - something that is relatively unheard of in today's technological world - which brought all the characters together in unlikely ways once they finally met up in person. It also brought a qua...
You know, sometimes books come along that you can’t help but hold up and yell “You have got to read this, people!” and this book is one of those.Set immediately following WWII the story is about a writer who is at a crossroads because she can’t decide what to write next. Nothing seems to be working....
"Delightful" is the first word that comes to mind as I think of what to say in a review of this book. A series of letters makes up the story, the characters are people I cared about, and the writing is such that it all just totally comes to life; the visuals are drawn so well by the authors. I tak...
This is a hugely enjoyable summertime read. The author's love for her subject, characters and the island is clearly evident. I ended up flying over Guernsey via Google Earth and the place looks like time stood still there. While being gently entertained I learned a bit of history from this one.
