It's worth a read for the hilarious comparison of a junkie named Cassandra to the classical Greek tragic figure.
I gobbled up Hinton books in middle school, because they were contemporary and realistic and a little gritty, unlike all the children's books I'd read before then. And also, because there weren't many of what we would now call YA books.
