I'm extremely happy to have read this little book of letters, great concept. As I was reading, Lady Susan reminded me of a movie I'd watched called Lillie played by Francesca Annis made in 1978. I would recommend this book to lovers of Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer and Historical/Regency Fiction.

Lady Susan started off funny and clever and then went to some dark places. It felt like a novella that should have ended in a murder and an investigation, and I rather feel it might have, had it been written 80 years later. The character studies, as can be expected, are acute and still recognisable....

The story ended up more entertaining than I thought it was going to be. The epistolary format detracts from the story. If only this was written into a full length novel! I think it would have done well.A large improvement from Love and Freindship [sic], which contain a variety of short stories in a ...

Holy Cow, this read like an episode of Dynasty! Lady Susan (Joan Collins) is such an unqualified b*tch! Her manipulations were hilarious and appalling at the same time. And her sister-in-law, Catherine Vernon (Linda Whatshername), was as nice and honest as Lady Susan was deceitful and vicious. Ceri...

Cute little epistolary novel about a conniving sociopath who goes to visit her relations. And destroy them. One of Austen's very early writing projects, as evidenced by the epistolary form which is obnoxious and unwieldy. And hard to pull off if a writer has little experience writing voice. (Pride a...

I enjoyed it very much right up until the end, where it looks like Miss Austen lost steam and ran out of ink. Far be it from me to criticize Jane Austen, but I can see why Lady Susan is not one of her more popular or oft-read offerings. Also, the titular protagonist is so very unlike other Austen wo...

" I'm not actin'! I'm not actin'." - Joan Crawford, Mommie Dearest (1981) her disreputable conduct at Langford forces recently widowed Lady Susan Vernon to flee to the sanctuary of Churchill, home to her brother-in-law Charles Vernon and his wife Catherine. much to Catherine Vernon's consternation, ...

An epistolary novel by Jane Austen which was just so well written. Unfortunately, I absolutely totally despised Lady Susan (just as we are meant to) that I just couldn't wait to finish reading it. The writing itself deserve at least 4 stars - an engaging epistolary novel where so much are containe...

The titular character was the single worst character of all time! I hated how conniving and controlling this character was. It took all my strength not to throw this book across the room.

Oh Lady Susan, you minx, you. You delight in causing misery in others while pitying yourself when they go contrary to your designs. Not very nice. Not nice at all. This was another delightful Austen story. This was written as an epistolary novel, and we essentially get the full picture from everyone...
