I decided to read this because I watched the first season of the show on SyFy, and really enjoyed it. I'm glad I made that decision. The book was wonderful, and sci-fi/space operas are not my normal genres. The tv show followed the plot of the book very closely, with the exception of some storyl...
I was not expecting to like Leviathan Wakes as much as I did. I picked it up because I liked The Expanse on Scy-Fy and needed to know what happened next, but I picked it up thinking it'd be a slog through overly detailed hard sci-fi and I wasn't really looking forward to the slog. But it is an extre...
For the first time I'm actually interested in what is in The Juice. I'm betting The Juice doesn't contain oranges.Leviathan Wakes is the first novel in The Expanse series and follows two protagonists, Jim Holden and Joseph Miller. Holden hauls ice - not that kind - for the colonies spread throughout...
”Way I see it, there’s three ways this can go,” Miller said. “One, we find your ship still in dock, get the meds we need, and maybe we live. Two, we try to get to the ship, and along the way we run into a bunch of mafia thugs. Die gloriously in a hail of bullets. Three, we sit here and leak out of o...
Leviathan Wakes is yet another novel where the hype hurt it rather than helped it with me. What do I mean by that? Simply put, I went into the read expecting this space opera to reinvent the genre! Blow me away! Render me speechless! Astonish me! And, while it was an entertaining science fiction...
Space Opera as a genre for a long time had a bad name. It was the "pulp" science fiction, generally considered low quality, low-brow and without literary merit. Needless to say, I have always loved it. It's back in vogue now, and with some real heavyweights producing some amazing work set agains...
Update 12/23/15: I've been watching the TV adaptation of this on Syfy and after seeing the first three episodes I am really liking it. I'm finding the TV show more compelling than I found the book.Leviathan Wakes is a mix of space opera and mystery which brought to mind Voice of the Whirlwind by Wal...
Not a mind-expanding, epic space opera. But a reasonably well written, fun little adventure spanning the solar system. I enjoyed it. I may read the sequel one day if I fancy a light read.
. . . But after reading the entire article, I still can't tell you when it's scheduled to begin. Even so, I'm very much looking forward to this space opera set two hundred years in the future. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2014/07/the-expanse-tv-show-syfy-thomas-jane-star?utm_source=exacttarget&utm_me...
Read by recommendation. Leviathan Wakes is a space horror novel (though light on the horror part). There are two PoVs here, each with their own chapters and opposing personalities. I did found them both to veer a bit too close to a stereotype, but it never became an issue. The pacing and the descr...
