Excellent, excellent novel about a young man lost in South Africa trying to make a life for himself. It sounds trite but it's so much more than that. Coetzee imagines--and believably so--what an illiterate good-natured black South African day laborer/agriculturist has to go through, but the result is the glorification of a human being I'm not sure I would necessarily commit much time to if I met IRL. yes, i belie...
What an awesome book by an amazingly talented author. This is a story of a young man who despite the war all around him is determined to live his life his own way and the country that opposes him.
