A great book. When I started it I was feeling bad that Sabriel wasn't the main character as I had become quite attached while reading her book. But, with amazing talent and skill, Mr. Nix wove a whole new cast of characters who are equally as engaging and the story was riveting to boot.

This was a very interesting follow up to Sabriel. I read it relatively quickly, and really enjoyed it. Lirael, the character, doesn't know who she is, or why she is different from the other girls of the Clayr, which is a group of people who have the ability to see into the future, or possible future...

These were fun books.Sabriel is pretty much a stand-alone book, but the second two are really one novel - Lirael ends right smack in the middle on a cliffhanger, and Abhorsen starts right where it left off...The trilogy gives us a dual world - one which very strongly resembles Britain in the early t...

+ Strong female protagonist; incorporation of mythic and modern elements; appealing cover art that references the Magician Tarot card.- Illegible map in the front matter, for no good reason. It looks like a bad photocopy of the map in Sabriel.

The writing is so good but I had a hard time with the subject matter. I'm easily squicked, and this is far too horrific for me- but the writing! I read the whole trilogy and liked it very much. Except for the squicky parts.
