“Ruby, where is your mother?” Ruby knows that the game is up. For the past few months, she’s been on her own in the yellow house, managing somehow, knowing that her mother will probably never return. That’s how she comes to live with Cora, the sister she hasn’t seen in ten years, and Cora’s husband Jamie, whose down-to-earth demeanor makes it hard for Ruby to believe he founded the most popular networking Web site around. A luxurious house, fancy private school, a new wardrobe, the promise of college and a future—it’s a dream come true. So why is Ruby such a reluctant Cinderella, wary and defensive? And why is Nate, the genial boy next door with some secrets of his own, unable to accept the help that Ruby is just learning to give? Best-selling author Sarah Dessen explores the heart of a gutsy, complex girl dealing with unforeseen circumstances and learning to trust again.Watch a QuickTime trailer for this book.

This book was really pleasant to read! It approaches many interesting subjects that could be helpful for a lot of teenagers (and not only teenagers). It is so simple yet so true and full of important lessons. I strongly recommend this book. It's the story of Ruby, a teenager who lives on her own a...
Initial reaction: I really enjoyed this story by Sarah Dessen (and ended up buying it on a spontaneous trip to Barnes and Noble). What can I really say. I loved this book to pieces. It's been a while since I can say that a book was picture perfect from beginning to end, but I really did find this book worked great. I had no issues with the writing, dialogue, plot, setting or pacing. I went and borrowed a ton of other Sarah Des...
This book took me through such an emotional roller coaster it should be illegal! Such in-depth subject with beautiful writing and amazing storyline.4.5 Stars
From another author, I'd probably give this five stars. But Dessen has written so many marvelous books, that this one doesn't seem outstanding. It's a great read, but not one that I imagine I'll come back to.Library copy
