I read this book in High School (it was compulsory) and really loved it. I loved the relationships between the characters and the whole feel of the book was great. I'd like to check out some more of Melina Marchetta's books.

(Review originally posted on my livejournal account: http://intoyourlungs.livejournal.com/30599.html)Why I Read It: It's Melina Marchetta! Obviously I need to read it. It's her debut title which is widely regarded by fans as her weakest, so I kind of wanted to "get it out of the way" before reading ...

This is the second book I've read by Melina Marchetta, the first being Jellicoe Road which was beyond amazing. Marchetta has a way with keeping drama from turning melodramatic. While some events were predictable, others were astounding. There are some powerful emotions in this book. The family dynam...

It's better than movie. :) Jellicoe Road is a tiny bit better, but you'll like this book.

What else is there to say? Marchetta owns me. I'll continue to read anything she writes. Okay, so really all I can say is this book made me laugh, cry, rage, forgive, and accept. I don't know what it is about Marchetta, but she really gets the dynamics of human relationships and the layers of the in...

And so I begin my summer of reading Young Adult books. It'll be like doing the summer reading I never did as a student. I may even make gimp keychains and friendship bracelets. No promises. I picked this book because I read alot of reviews of Marchetta's work and she scored high marks with teens. Th...

Humor, passion, family and friends are all bound up in this tidy little book. I have come to expect all these things from Melina Marchetta. She does not disappoint in this one: Josephine Alibrandi is smart, sassy, melodramatic, loud, and funny as hell. Vice Captain in her school she considers herse...
