Not what I was expecting as a spin off from outlander. Nowhere nearly as good. Barely rated a meh.

It was okay. I read halfway through the book and just couldn't finish it after being burned out by Outlander. Lord John is a very melancholic serious person. But the action and story is so superficial even for the thriller genre. It wasn't bad and I probably would have finished if I hadn't just ...

Amended review: Feb 20123+ starsOK, I have to admit that a lot of my prejudice about Lord John has to do with his obsession over Jamie... and the LJ books being my first real foray into literature that dealt overtly with homosexuality. I don't think of myself as prejudiced (who does?), and I've work...

Much as I love Lord John, there isn't much that can compare to the epic style and scale of the Outlander series.

3.5 starsLord John is NOT Jaime, and there's no Claire in there either... Still interesting story, and nice to learn a little more about Lord John. However, I'm only reading these because I'm in Outlander-withdrawal.

The writing was concise, so even though it was about a time when the writing could be unbearably flowery, this works well for the modern reader.I thought it was better...

Great narrator. Better book than what I expected from all the lukewarm reviews. Now I'm excited to listen to the rest of the series.

This was an interesting twist on the standard regency romantic mystery. I enjoyed the concept of a male lead, and I thought the mystery was nice, if a bit predictable in spots. I previously have read the first Outlander book, and I must confess that I didn't enjoy it at all, so I was surprised to ...
