I was a little nervous about this Victorian romance, because animal-loving characters can so easily wind up seeming sappy or woo-woo. They can also be quite wonderful when done right (Wild at Heart; Lightning That Lingers) and here, Beatrix is a highly intelligent, capable, and generally admirable p...

2.5 starsMy least favorite Hathaway book. I didn't particularly like the heroine -too ditzy/hippie for my taste- and almost disliked the hero. Actually the part where those two were apart from each other was the best part of the book for me:) And Beatrix running around in breeches all the time and u...

★★★★ ½ Wonderfully narrated by Rosalyn Landor; I enjoyed it even more the second time I "read" it.

I'll have to retract a statement I once made about Lisa Kleypas not being able to do angst, because she does it superbly in this one ...Beatrix is like a romance heroine version of Temple Grandin, without the autism, and a little too perfect to be truly human to me, although she is a...

I'm so sad that this series has come to an end. I hope that we get a Hathaway Christmas story or something similar to the Wallflower Christmas story. I'd love to see more from this family. Oh how I love them so!This book follows Beatrix Hathaway, the animal lover of the family find her happy ending....
