This book reminded me very much of Reaktion's Edible series. It's very similar: a brief, beautifully illustrated book on a foodstuff. The Edible books, however, are entirely focused on the history of a foodstuff, while Maple Sugar has a wider scope. It does cover the history of maple sugaring, yes, ...
