If the History Channel and Comedy Central had a baby, it would be this book. Its formula is as subversive as it is simple: Former Daily Show writer Chris Regan takes 365 days of historical facts and then reshapes them in irreverent ways. For example, the entry for July 12th notes that on that day in 1991, Russians elected Boris Yeltsin, then follows that statement with the more speculative "Yeltsin suggests a toast for democracy, wakes up shoeless on a bus eight years later." A full year of history with a risible twist.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very funny, and while some of the jokes were pretty low brow and repetitive (fewer President Taft was fat jokes would have been better), some of the jokes were actually quite witty.
