This was my favorite volume so far. It did such a good job making me remember what junior high was like, with the awkwardness, fights between friends, and the sense that no one understands you. I knew how hard it was for me, and I can't even imagine how much harder it must be for kids like Shuichi ...
Really excellent follow up to volume one. The characters continue to grow, and explore their identity, and what that might mean for them as they grow older. It's nice to see they have an adult that they can confide in. I was especially proud of Saori’s actions when she sees Shuichi being bullies. I ...
A sweet, and almost gentle story about identity, friendship, acceptance (of yourself and others), and belonging. Not a sexually charged, or exploitative book. It made me happy that this series was avaible to order through my library, and was part of more than one library's collection.
There is nothing I love more then walking through my library's manga/graphic novel sections and seeing volume one and volume two of a series right next to each other. It's like striking gold! So was the case with my encountering Wandering Son and damn am I happy! In this second volume we see the stor...
Wandering Son is a beautifully drawn hardcover manga, that feels a lot like what you would normally expect from a North American graphic novel. Whenever I think manga, I think of things like Inuyasha and Fruits Basket, but among all the shojo and action fantasy romps we also have books like this one...
Interesting start to the series. I'd like to see more about where it goes though - as while it's got a unique look and style - the fact that James Cameron wants to make a movie out of this is kind of making me look for the "James Cameron" movie in this - and I haven't found it yet.
Cute story, handles the issues well and with subtlety. But Yuki-san and her boyfriend are kind of creepy, aren't they? Is that just something about Japanese culture that I'm missing where it's cool for adults to be friends with fifth graders?
Another of my favourite manga series that initially got me interested in Japanese manga and anime, Battle Angel Alita is another classic Japanese manga from the early 1990s.This series tells the story of an amnesiac female cyborg named Alita, whose head and upper torso are found in a state of suspen...
Two transgender children meet and come to recognize and enact their gender identities. So far the story is so focused on the issue that it's basically a problem novel, but it's a sweet-natured and respectful one. Very unlike how the idea is typically played in shojo manga.
