This graphic novel revolves around Dex, a PI who has a younger brother to take care, a brother she describes as mentally retarded. To her credit, she does love him very much, and while he wouldn't be able to get to work without her there to remind him when he needs to go, she also doesn't talk down...
Rucka has managed to do the down-on-their-luck detective story without coming across as cliche. Good crime story and a good setup for a series worth reading.
Casey gave me this book to read. I really loved the art. The story is a little by-the-numbers. Down on her luck PI faces various setbacks as she tries to unravel a mystery about a missing girl. Very fun hard boiled PI story. That fact that it's set in Portland, and made by a writer from Portland helps. I'm looking forward to whenever the next graphic novel in the series comes out, because this is great, and I look forward to reading more.
