When a rotting torso is discovered in the vault of New Scotland Yard, it doesn't take Dr Thomas Bond, Police Surgeon, long to realise that there is a second killer at work in the city where, only a few days before, Jack the Ripper brutally murdered two women in one night. Though just as gruesome, this is the hand of a colder killer, one who lacks Jack's emotion. And, as more headless and limbless torsos find their way into the Thames, Dr Bond becomes obsessed with finding the killer. As his investigations lead him into an unholy alliance, he starts to wonder: is it a man who has brought mayhem to the streets of London, or a monster?

3.0 Mayhem by Sarah Pinborough
This book tells the fictional story of some of the lesser-known but equally brutal murders in London in the late 1880s. It was interesting, and it had an interesting take on the supernatural cause of the murders (at least in this fictional account, naturally). I was worried that the author wouldn’t ...

1. MAYHEM, BY SARAH PINBOROUGH (Book 1 of Dr. Thomas Bond) Starting off the year with a book I loved because of the cover. I like historical fiction, and the overall theme of the book also interested me, but this cover is just fantastic. And it does a very good job of representing what the book has ...

3.0 Mayhem (Sarah Pinborough)
On one hand, the way that Ms. Pinborough used real-life persons and used murders was totally different than what I used to read and it made for quite an interesting read. Apparently The Thames Torso murders that happened in 1887-1889 were as gruesome as the Whitechapel murders, conducted by Jack the...

3.0 Mayhem
The story in Mayhem is about "The Thames Torso Murders of 1887-89" with a paranormal twist to it. I didn't know before I read Mayhem that Jack the Ripper wasn't the only killer on the lose at the time. Sarah Pinborough has taken real characters and used them in this book, which was a great move to m...

5.0 Mayhem by Sarah Pinborough
Pinborough raises the bar on historical thrillers with this engaging tale, spinning off the long forgotten Thames Torso murders, horrific crimes overshadowed by the predations of Jack the Ripper, to create a chillingly realistic tale of mystery and supernatural menace. Reads like a collaboration bet...
