Short but worth the visit once you can get past the preface etc etc *yawn*I can do no better than direct you to Jim's review as I heartily concur with all the points he makes, however, certain narratives are not conducive to rating and this is one of those.

Excellent introduction to Douglass's life and times for young readers.

can't recommend it highly enough. Some of the surrounding text such as the preface and the appendicies weren't that interesting but in conjunction with Douglass's stirring tale they fit in nicely. Still a wonderful read, even when you are forced to read a bunch of emancipation narratives all at the same time thanks to an English degree. I read this again in a graduate program and it lost none of its power.
