I hated The Road. But everyone is all "Cormac McCarthy is the greatest American writer!" and maybe I just wasn't giving him a fair chance. So I gave him another. I haven't seen the movie, but I decided to check out No Country for Old Men since it was relatively short.McCarthy could grow on me. This ...

dark, spare, sometimes too terse, but ultimately a great novel. the last section is risky but has stayed with me.

This story was quite the bloodbath. Sure, it kept me turning the pages, but the story itself was just sort of "eh". I don't think I'll go seek out the movie on purpose unless I'm in the mood for lots of shooting and dying. The main character of a story is usually the one that changes by story's end (...
