An exotic and page-turning thriller

Johnny Silver, an Israeli army-trained mercenary, has retired to St Jude in the Caribbean and runs a beach bar with his pregnant Chechnyan wife Anna.

His comrade at arms Bull, a Jamaican, takes the tourists on fishing trips.

Having previously seen action in Angola, the States and Poland with his fighting friends Pieter, Stanislav and Red, they all now live quieter lives.

But things take a turn in paradise when Johnny is summoned to the local luxury hotel to meet Agent Toomey who works for the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Toomey blackmails him as Anna has an illegal passport and could be sent back to Chechnya.

Although he doesn’t want to be entangled in this mess, Johnny has no choice.

With documents in hand and a healthy payment, Johnny must take on the task of releasing Maria, the daughter of Emanuel Estavez, a pillar of the community, who runs a chain of Mexican restaurants in the States.

She is being held hostage by Miguel Rojo, the son of a Colombian drugs baron.

He doesn’t want a ransom but needs the use of Estevez’s produce lorries to smuggle drugs into the States.

Johnny is uncertain that his old friends will be keen on disrupting their new found peace to help him but when he informs them of his plight, they jump on board, eager for the bravado and danger of the good old days.

Travelling to Santa Rio, a small village in Mexico, where Maria is being held by Rojo in his finca, they plan their strategy, aided by Chico one of the local boys, who knows the comings and goings in the village.

With a deadline to keep, will their local intel be enough to keep them alive and save Maria?

No Easy Way Out is a tense and action-packed thriller set against the colourful backdrop of Central and South America.

Paul Bennett was born in London and worked in advertising and market research until 1990. The sale of his own agency enabled him to take up full-time writing. He lives in Essex with his wife and daughter, and is a three-star bridge master.
