This sort if thing isn't supposed to happen any more, right? On the surface Highland is a normal town like any other. That is because the local authorities have spent a long time making sure that anyone who does not fit in disappears. Chloe knows all too well what happens to them. Her grandfather is the town sheriff. She was once on the receiving end of his anger and wound up in the hospital for it. She has read his files and knows where the bodies are buried. She has been hiding her real feelings about a lot of things, especially other girls, because he's already made her a prisoner and if he suspects she might be gay she knows he will kill her. At first Chloe's plan was to wait it out until she was eighteen and could get out, but as she discovers what they did to her mother (who was supposed to have gotten out years ago with her newborn baby) she realizes that there is no way out of town and a new plan forms. Chloe intends to leave Highland, even if she has to kill everyone in town to do it. When the town is suddenly cut off from the rest of the world and people involved in Highland's bloody underbelly begin dying soon everyone knows Chloe has embarked on a deadly path she cannot leave. As the townsfolk fall Chloe faces her enemies, meets unexpected allies, and exposes terrible secrets. It's her or them... and I don't like their chances.
