Years ago, back when Neil Gaiman was still writing Sandman, I can recall reading a magazine interview in which he was asked if there was in any superhero character at DC or Marvel he would like to write. He replied that he felt he had a great Thor story to tell but that Marvel would never give him t...
These were so interesting. I've not read much about the Norse gods. Loki is definitely the star of the book IMO. He's forever up to something. The other gods are more serious. He livens everything up. This is told in a cool way so that even if it's a gruesome tale of gore the reader gets maximum enj...
Wonderful retelling of Norse Gods. Each short story builds to the next one making it easy to follow and absorb the details. My only complaint is that is is so short I wanted 3-4 x's more. I'm greedy like that.
I was very much looking forward to this book, but I found it rather meh. I'd expected a bit more personality in the retelling of these old myths, but it lacked a certain Gaiman-ness for me.
Nothing really to say about this except it's fabulous. So fabulous that after the half-way mark of the audio, I went out and bought it in print, too. But if you have the option, I highly recommend listening to the audio. Neil Gaiman narrates it himself, and he's... I can't imagine anyone could do...
Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology was exactly what I needed. The real world has been bumming me out lately, so this was the perfect escape that I needed. As I mentioned in my previous update, I knew very little about the myths of Odin, Thor, Loki, etc. The little bit that I did know comes from the com...
The Norse myths told in an engaging and easy to read manner. Most of the stories will be familiar if you've read any other Norse myths book, if not then this would be a good place to start to find out about the major gods and what made them tick. There's nothing that necessarily makes it a stand-out N...
Before I review this, you should know two very important things. 1. I am a total Gaiman fangirl. There are very few things he's written that I didn't love, and I look forward to a new Gaiman book more than I do to Christmas. Or my birthday. I have at least 3 copies of every Sandman book (My belov...
I think the biggest take away for me for this book is that not everything is American Gods. I thought that this book would be Gaiman's take on Norse myths. And for the most part besides some humor and dialogue here and there, Gaiman plays this pretty straight from beginning to end. There are some pa...
Gaiman has put together a lovely little introduction to Norse mythology in this collection of cleanly written tales. The narrative voice is one that you could imagine belonging to a storyteller, sharing stories. Some of my favorite myths are found in these pages, and several I had not yet read. O...
