On his way to visit his old mentor, mountain man Maple Jack, Roamer makes a supply stop in the raw, flyblown town of Forsaken, Wyoming. There he is recognized by a young man, a specter from his past. The greenhorn has the deed to a valuable ranch -- The kind of property people kill for. Roamer reluctantly agrees to escort him and his pretty companion into the Bitterroot Mountains. When desperadoes attack, Roamer is saved from death by Maple Jack. But they both realize that death is close at hand in the cold ranch valley north of Forsaken.
