John Locke, born in 1632. Educated at Westminster and Christ Church, Oxford. Lecturer in Greek and rhetoric at Oxford, 1660-2. Physician to the first Earl of Shaftesbury, 1667. F.R.S., 1668. Lived in France, and later in Holland, 1685-9. Commissioner of Appeals from 1689 till his death in 1704.
