A funny nonsense poem (I would expect no less from Lear). Lear died before he finished it, so Ogden Nash filled in the blanks. It's also from the 1960s, and Burkert's introduction laments that the Blue Whale might soon be extinct. It's still an endangered species, but it's not extinct yet.

The poem itself gets five stars from me! Custard the Dragon is an old favorite in our family and we'd never seen it illustrated before so that was fun. For me, the illustrations are just okay though. I suppose when you've been reading and enjoying a poem without benefit of illustrations for so long ...
