Origin by Jessica Khoury is a beautifully written book. It's clear from the first page that Khoury did her research on the plants and animals, the weather and customs of the jungle. Unfortunately, for a book whose plot should have been gripping, the tension gets lost in the beauty and character deve...
Originally posted at Nose in a Book (blog)Origin was a buzz book of 2012. It is YA heaven. This is the story of Pia. Pia’s life is surrounded by a jungle, literally. She was born and raised in the middle of a jungle to be immortal. Pia was created by a group of scientist to be the strong immortal ou...
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was so good I can't even breathe. Okay, I've been wanting to read it for a long time, because of its gorgeous cover and everything, and I didn't expect it to be all that good because every time I expect something to be good by judging a book by its cover, I get so majorly...

The story line was interesting to me and that suprised me because I'm not usually into science fiction type books. Basically the story line is that Pia is a genetically altered immortal human. Nothing pierces...
Read it as a monthly read of a GR group. It's a page turner & the writing quality is overall decent, however there are also lots of plot holes, slippery slope fallacy (the premise of so-called "Wickham test"), the "mad scientist" stereotype & arguably some Eurocentrism.
Via http://onlectus.blogspot.com/2012/11/origin-by-jessica-khoury.htmlI was so looking forward to reading this book. Pia was born in a secret lab deep in the jungle of the Amazon. She’s born perfect. She doesn’t get sick, her skin is like that of Superman – can’t be pinched by needles, she doesn’t g...
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise of this book, and overall it was a satisfying read. The setting was vibrant, interesting, mysterious, and quite tangible. I could smell the flowers and hear the thunder and feel the cool glass walls of Pia’s home in Little Cam.Pia was likewise vibrant; a sma...

That's the concept of Origin, a stunning debut by Jessica Khoury. No review I could ever write could do this book...
